Views by L.S. & Co.
L.S. & Co. were a weird company.
Their views were marketed in the U.S. by the Universal Stereoscopic View
Co. and sometimes they appear in the U.K. by Albermarle or with no attribution
at all. Nobody seems to know who they were, where they came from and where
they went. They may have been Smellie and Co. They seem to comprise
about four models - the main one being an old gent with bushy beard and
a merry twinkle in his eye. Much like Mrs Brown's Boys, I reckon
the rest were probably family members. They had few props and it
is fun to spot the same ones used over again. Their views have been dotted
around on this site but I have long planned to give them their own page,
so here it is. The views are cheaply produced on thick card; at first glance
they seem to be lithos but they are not. These would mostly seem to be
collotypes (see article by David Horine in
Stereo World, volume
42, No 6, where one of these views is illustrated). Most are wacky
and bizarre - see for yourself.

One of my favorite views from the mad brains of L.S. & Co., featuring

feet showing thru. Priceless - but yours for only $12.

'Master intrudes'. L. &

worth all the bother but she might be a wild little devil under the calico.

L.S. entered the risqué (smut) market. If any of this turns you on - get help - fast!
'In the early morning'. I shudder
to think what she looked like late at night. Minus point - ugliest woman
this side of the Rockies. Plus point - left nipple visible - sorry, my
wife says it is the right nipple - I am in a weird marriage.

Condition. Some lifting of

'In der Hangermatte'. Translates
as 'In the Hangermatte'. If it had one 't' then it would be a useful little
device for storing your clothes in a caravan - but it hasn't.. Steev emails
to say that it is probably 'Hangematte' which means 'hammock'. Seems a
much more sensible solution to me!
Condition. Surface wrinkles
from bad mounting.
Order #10801.

'How nice'.
Condition 7.
Order #10802.
